Human relations group to present award

Award named in honor of former chairperson


WHO: The Monmouth County Human Relations Commission (MCHRC)

WHAT:   Fifth  annual Earl Thomas Teasley Humanitarian Award  to be presented to Violeta Peters

WHEN:   4:15 p.m. Monday, June 1, 2015  following  an open 3:30 p.m. business meeting. The public  is invited to attend this free ceremony. RSVPs are suggested.

Violeta Peters, B.A., M.A. was born in Puerto Rico and came to the U.S. at the age of nine. A resident of Long Branch, she has held numerous nursing and leadership positions in the health field. Since September 2003 she has been  Chief Executive Officer of AcuteCare Health System.

Volunteering and serving her community has always been Peters's passion. She has  served as an officer of the Long Branch  Board of Education and the Monmouth County School Board.

Peters is a member of the Monmouth County Work Force Investment Board and a commissioner of the Monmouth County Recreation Board. She presides over the Latin American Association of Monmouth County and is a member of the Monmouth Vicinage Advisory Committee on Minority Concerns. 

Throughout Peters's successful career, she has been an active member of the community, focusing her involvement in efforts that promote academic advancement and cultural awareness.

Earl Thomas Teasley, for whom the award is named, was the chairman of the MCHRC at the time of his death in April 2010. Teasley was a noted advocate for social justice, a beloved counselor and an assistant professor at Brookdale Community College.
